What is a dental implant

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root which is surgically inserted into the jawbone and used to hold a prosthetic tooth or series of teeth in place. Typically, they are used when a patient has an accident or medical condition causing tooth loss. Once a dental implant is completed, the result is an artificial tooth that looks, feels, and functions like natural teeth.

Are dental implants right for me?

Good candidates for dental implants are those with strong, healthy gums and a jawbone capable of supporting a new root.  If you have oral health problems like gingivitis or have suffered bone loss due to a tooth abscess, you may not be a good candidate for dental implants.

What to expect

If dental implants are right for you, you may be wondering what to expect.  Your dental implant procedure will occur in three stages.

Before you schedule your dental implant procedure, one of our dentists will perform an exam. We'll review nerves, sinuses, and bone structure around the treatment area.

Placeing the implant

Placing the implant can be done on an outpatient basis and using local anesthetic. We will place the implant and jawbone and gums time to heal. During the healing process, the implant will fuse to your bone and you will wear a temporary crown.

Final crown

Once your bone and gums have healed, your dentist will obtain a fresh dental impression and make your final crown. We will match your new tooth's color to your surrounding teeth.
